Job Description

HVAC Variable Frequency Drive Field Specialist

Imagine your day: You start with a service ticket for a university air handler that’s tripping on fault. By mid-morning you’re commissioning a new VFD on a hospital pump, verifying parameters, running through start‑up, and documenting readings. After lunch, you’re tracing a control loop at a government office, meter in hand, to isolate a communication issue between the BMS and a drive. You wrap the day updating your service log in Outlook and Excel before heading home.

What you’ll work on
  • Install, commission, troubleshoot, and perform routine service on Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) serving pumps, fans, AHUs, and cooling tower applications.
  • Use the right tools for the job: hand/power tools, multimeters, clamp meters, and harmonic analyzers; run wire, pull cable, and complete neat conduit work.
  • Travel on site to a variety of facilities—hospitals, universities, schools, water treatment plants, and commercial/government offices.
  • Work safely around high-voltage equipment (up to 480V) and low-voltage controls (around 24VDC).
Territory you’ll cover

Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, Northern West Virginia, Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and Southern Michigan.

What you bring
  • 3+ years of hands-on field experience with VFDs.
  • Background with VFDs in AHUs, pump systems, and cooling towers (preferred).
  • Ability to interpret the HVAC control loop, circuitry, and schematics.
  • Working knowledge or experience with Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to client sites.
  • Capable of lifting at least 75 lbs.
  • Comfort with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and a strong desire to learn.
Tools & Environment

You’ll routinely interact with mechanical and electrical teams, coordinate with facility staff, and document findings. Precision, safety, and customer communication are key.

Compensation

Estimated: $24 – $50 per hour, commensurate with experience.
